EDMONTON – Kelsie Hendry repeatedly raised the bar as a student-athlete at the University of Saskatchewan, where she became a five-time Canada West and three-time national gold medalist in pole vault.
Hendry was announced Monday as inductee No. 95 in the Canada West Hall of Fame, as the conference continues to honour 100 years of university sport in Western Canada.
Over five seasons as a student-athlete, Hendry set both conference and national records, reaching levels that no one else could, as the Saskatoon product went undefeated in competition during her final three seasons.
With Hendry at the forefront, the Huskies women’s track team won national titles in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005, to go with Canada West championships in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Individually, Hendry won the CIS pole vault title in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and was a multi-time All-Canadian and Academic All-Canadian.
Hendry won gold in the women’s pole vault at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in both 2007 and 2008. At the 2008 Beijing Summer Games, she became the first-ever female athlete from Saskatoon to represent Canada at the Olympic Games.
