A Regina Police officer shot a dog over the noon hour yesterday [tues]. Officers were sent to a residence on the 1,000 block of Broder Street about a disturbance involving a male inside a residence screaming, and two large aggressive dogs outside. Police spotted the dogs in the alley and, when the dogs rushed them, one officer shot in their direction, injuring one of the dogs. The animals retreated into the house and the male inside came out. Police say he refused a command by officers to put the dogs away and was arrested for Breach of the Peace. Police and Animal Control officers entered the house, secured three dogs in kennels, and the injured dog was sent to a vet. The Regina Humane Society told police that the dogs had a history of aggressive behaviour and had just been released from quarantine the day before. The incident is now in the hands of the Use of Force Review Board.
