A proposed natural gas power plant near Moose Jaw has entered the request for proposals phase. Two companies have been short-listed. The project has received approval to proceed to the permitting phase from the Ministry of Environment. The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency gave the green light last year. The new plant is expected to come online in 2024. It will be similar in size to the Chinook Power Station which fired up near Swift Current in 2019. Once online, the new plant will generate enough electricity to power a city the size of Saskatoon and create about 25 permanent jobs. During construction the 350 Megawatt facility will employ an average of 230 workers per day with more than 500 workers on site during the peak of construction.
