Prairie Spirit School Division notified parents recently of changes to their transportation policy, for both high school and elementary school students in Warman and Martensville, beginning in the fall.
The notice explained that Prairie Spirit does not receive funding for high school transportation in those cities. As a result, parents will be charged $250 per student in high school, if they live beyond 1.5 kms of their school.
High school students will not qualify for bus transportation if they live within 1.5 kms of their school.
Matt Love, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Education says for many parents, it’s the only way their children can get to school safely.
Love says, “Forcing them to find an extra $250 per child – all because the Sask. Party is nickel and diming school divisions – is completely unreasonable.”
Other changes to the student transportation services taking effect this fall include:
Both elementary and high school students may register for transportation services from one location only and will not be given multiple passes. Exceptions will be made for two-home situations for students, who will receive a maximum of two bus passes.
Elementary school students will not be charged for transportation services.
To secure busing for the first day of school, registration is required by Thursday, June 26th, 2025.
For inquiries about busing, or to register for transportation services, contact Prairie Spirit’s Transportation Department at busing@spiritsd.ca or call (306) 374-2496.
