Brandon re-claimed sole possession of third place in the W-H-L’s East Division after trimming the Saskatoon Blades 5-1 Wednesday night at SaskTel Centre.
An encouraging opening 5:45 of the game was interrupted by a penalty, followed quickly thereafter by a Brandon power play goal. The Wheaties gained energy and the Bridge City Bunch couldn’t match it. The result boosted the Wheaties two points ahead of the 27-21-5 Bridge City Bunch into third place in the W-H-L’s East Division.
Ridly Greig led the way for the 28-19-5 Wheat Kings with two goals and two assists while captain Connor Gutenberg had a goal and three helpers and defenceman Braden Schneider chipped in a goal and an assist in front of 2,815 fans. The only real chance they had to cheer was when Nolan Kneen scored on an early third period breakaway to thwart Jiri Patera’s shutout bid. Brandon out-shot the Blue and Gold 32-23. The same teams collide Friday in Western Manitoba. Following is the official game summary from the W-H-L…
