The Conciliation Board was brought into talks for four days last month between the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee and the Government Trustee Bargaining Committee. The Board’s report contains a number of recommendations. The province says the main ones were for a one per cent salary increase for year one, and two per cent for years two and three. That is in addition to the one percent increase received last September.
The conciliator did not recommend that class size and composition be included in the collective agreement. It did recommend that the Teachers’ Federation and the School Boards Association meet with the Minister of Education to explore potential partnerships to support classroom student learning and teacher working environment. The government says its committee is ready to get back to the table to discuss the report with the teacher’s committee.
Earlier this week, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation held a vote on sanctions. A vote in favour would give their Bargaining Committee the authority to determine when, how and what sanctions may be implemented.
The results of the vote are expected at the end of the month.
