The Coastal Gaslink disruptions, blockades, and protests across Canada don’t seem to have a lot of support. The chaos has blocked railway access, and shut down streets, affecting both travelers and shipments of goods. An Angus Reid survey finds the county is divided along political, regional and economic lines on the issue. Only 39 per cent of those surveyed say they support the protestors. These tend to be younger women as well as those on the lower side of the income scale and those who lean left on the political spectrum. They are most likely to come from British Columbia and Quebec. Angus Reid says 51 per cent of people asked say they support the Coastal Gaslink project itself. That includes majority support in every province with the exception of Quebec. What people may not realize is that the company that owns the pipeline has agreements in place with all of the elected First Nations band councils affected. Those who appear to be launching the most vociferous objection are eight, unelected, hereditary chiefs.
