You may notice new public pay parking stations are now being installed in Saskatoon.
Wayne Sum, Parking Services Manager, says there are approximately 325 pay parking stations in the city located in the various Business Improvement Districts and he says it will take to spring of 2026 to get them all installed.
“So, we definitely heard loud and clear from the public that, you know, pay stations are certainly having some challenges over the year. The pay stations were originally installed in 2015 so we’re about ten years out now so we’ re long overdue for an upgrade. We’re now moving toward touch screens and what not that are much larger and colour…. just bigger displays for individuals to use and no more mechanical buttons.” “The one thing that is going to be a nice upgrade for these pay stations is that we’re actually going to be granting debit and credit card tap, apple and google pay, digital wallets as well at the pay station,” he added.
Sum says they piloted a machine downtown for the past two winters and it has worked flawlessly, and they expect these new pay stations to perform quite well even in the winter cold. The purchase cost is $1.78 million and is paid for by parking reserve capital.
