The Prince Albert Police Service was kept busy Wednesday night and Thursday morning, due to three separate arson incidents and arresting three different male suspects.
The first call came at about 9:15 p.m. on July 30 as officers responded to a gas station in the 200 block of 16th Street West with a report of a disturbance in which a man allegedly stole a jerry can and set it on fire. Police arrived to a fire in the street and two gas station employees trying to put it out. Officers also spotted a man matching the suspect description taunting the employees before allegedly assaulting one of them. The suspect attempted to flee on foot when police intervened, only to be arrested after a short pursuit. The 38-year-old man faces charges of assault, theft under five thousand dollars, mischief under five thousand dollars, arson and resisting arrest.
The second incident happened at 11:45 p.m. when officers came upon a man lighting a residence on fire in the 1000 block of 17 Street West. He was quickly arrested and the attending officers grabbed a fire extinguisher from their patrol car and put out the flames. The 34-year-old man has been charged with arson and failure to comply with a release order.
Lastly, at about 10 a.m. July 31, police were called to the area near the 200 block of 32nd Street West because a man was trying to light a vehicle on fire. Arriving officers quickly located the man matching the suspect description and arrested him without further incident. The 27-year-old man faces charges of attempted arson, mischief and breach of probation.
