The Saskatoon Police Service says an officer who saw a driver using his cell phone Saturday night tried to pull him over, but the motorist refused to stop.
This was at 8th Street and Cumberland Avenue. In a news release police say while the driver did pull over a few blocks away he refused to provide information to police and tried to drive off again. As well during the traffic stop its alleged he tried to open his vehicle door hitting the officer in the face which resulted in a minor injury. A second officer arrived on scene and assisted in making the arrest.
The 46-year-old man is now facing charges of Assaulting a Peace Officer, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Failing to Stop, Distracted Driving and Failing to Produce a Drivers License. The man’s vehicle was also impounded for 7 days.
