So far this year, there have been 219 farm-related line contacts, representing a 17 per cent increase from the same time frame last year.
This spike in incidents is prompting SaskPower to remind farmers of the dangers present in the field.
SaskPower says there are several ways to mitigate the risk of a line contact. These include planning a route ahead of time with the Look Up and Live Map on saskpower.com, taking regular breaks to avoid fatigue and to stay alert, having a spotter on the ground when working near power lines, and retracting or lowering equipment when moving to another field.
In the event of a line contact, remain in your vehicle and call the SaskPower Outage Centre at 310-2220.
