Warriors Finish Pre-Season Successfully at Expense of the Blades

Owen Berge’s late tally gave Moose Jaw a 4-3 W-H-L pre-season victory over the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night in Martensville.

The teams exchanged goals throughout the final two periods after a scoreless opening frame with no side leading by more than one marker. In the end, Berge beat Ryley Budd for the winning goal with 2:24 remaining in the third period as the Warriors finished their pre-season schedule with a 3-2-0 record. Tyler Parr, Ben Bowtell and Martensville product Kazden Mathies replied for the Bridge City Bunch, who ended up exhibition play with a 4-2-0 record. The Blue and Gold out-shot Moose Jaw 39-30. Now comes the onerous task for both teams, in fact all 23 W-H-L clubs reducing their roster numbers to between 21 and 24 players ahead of next weekend’s start of the 60th W-HL regular season. Saskatoon opens up Friday night in Prince Albert, then host the Raiders Saturday at SaskTel Centre.
