It was perhaps the most shocking weekend of the season for Huskie Athletics, with three teams in action. Men’s Soccer grabbed their first victory of the season, while Football fell to Manitoba after the Bisons scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to hand Saskatchewan their first loss. Full weekend recap below…
Huskies Football
The Saskatchewan Huskies entered Saturday afternoon as the fifth-ranked team across U-SPORTS and were up against a Manitoba Bisons team who dropped their first two games on the road. The Huskies jumped out to a 17-0 lead at halftime. The offence was being led once again by Anton Amundrud, Daniel Wiebe and Ryker Frank with the latter two combined for 216 yards on the day. Manitoba would respond in the second half with 21-unanswered points to take a 21-17 lead, with a field goal the only points put on the board by the Huskies, who ultimately fell short by just one point.
The focus will have to shift quickly as Saskatchewan hosts the only undefeated team remaining in the conference Saturday night and will serve as a Hardy Cup rematch from last season, the Regina Rams.
