For a second straight night and game, the Saskatoon Blades spotted the opposition a 3-0 lead in the first period. And, while they were able to comeback and win 5-3 in Lethbridge on Friday, Saturday was a different story as the Bridge City Bunch fell 4-1 at Medicine Hat.

The Blue and Gold were their own worst enemies in falling behind to the Tigers Saturday. All three home team goals in the first period came directly off Blades’ turnovers in the defensive zone. While Rowan Calvert was able to score in the second period, Medicine Hat goaltender Jordan Switzer turned in a first star performance, making 30 saves and making sure their would be no repeat of a come-from-behind success for Saskatoon. Calvert’s goal was his fourth of the season – all coming in the Bridge City Bunch’s last three games. The 2-2-0 Blue and Gold, who were out-shot 37-31 and went oh-for-four on the power play, are back home for their next game – a third consecutive weekend of a University-type of schedule – when they welcome the Red Deer Rebels at SaskTel Centre, then travel to Brandon for a Sunday afternoon contest to kickoff a busy 13-game October slate.
