Saskatchewan bucked the trend across Canada in December, with investment in residential construction here rising one per cent from the month before. Only Alberta and Ontario were able to stay in positive territory along with us. Nationally, investment was up less than one per cent. Statistics Canada says, total investment in Saskatchewan came in at $171.9 million.
On the nonresidential side, investment here fell 1.5 per cent . We were one of four provinces on the down side. Nationally, investment was up just under one per cent. Total investment in Saskatchewan was $122.4 million.
For all of 2019, residential construction in Saskatchewan was down about 13 per cent. A total of three provinces saw declines, with Albert having the largest drop at 15.3 per cent. Nationally investment rose 2.3 per cent. In Saskatchewan investment closed the year out at about $2.2 billion.
For non-residential investment, Saskatchewan ended the year up 2.6 per cent. The national average was a rise of six per cent. Total investment in Saskatchewan ended the year at about $1.5 billion.
