Parks Canada is asking anyone who see wildlife that is dead, sick, injured or a young animal that may have been abandoned, to contact Parks Canada or a Conservation Officer immediately.
This after Parks Canada Duty Officers at Prince Albert National Park received a report on October 8th about a bull elk with a mat of plastic netting wrapped around its antlers.
Parks officials say during mating season male elk mark their territory and assert dominance by rubbing their antlers on trees and other objects as well as scraping the ground which can lead to tangles like the one reported.
Conservation staff were able to safely immobilize the animal and removing the netting. The elk quickly recovered and was up and around.
