Coming off the heels of a 2-1 loss in overtime last night, the Saskatchewan Huskies were looking to rebound and spilt the weekend series against Trinity Western, something they achieved two weeks ago against Mount Royal. The goal of a weekend split couldn’t of started off better as Saskatchewan jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Kaysah Nurani, Kara Mitenko and Paris Oleksyn. The first two goals were the first Canada West goals for Nurani and Mitenko while Oleksyn’s was her first of the season in only her second game. Trinity Western stopped the bleeding with a Chole Reid goal five-minutes later and added a second from Kailey Ledoux to cut the deficit to one going into the third period. Jordyn Matthews caught a luck bounce on a power-play midway through the third to tie the game for the Spartans and eventually force overtime for the second consecutive night. After scoring 22 seconds into the extra frame last night, it only took 13 seconds as Chole Reid found a loose puck behind the net and stuffed it home on a wrap-around to seal the weekend series.
Trinity Western improves to 4-and-2 on the season while Saskatchewan falls to 1-1-and-2 as they will look on to next weekend for the first edition of the U-Prairie Challenge against the Regina Cougars. Friday night puck drop is 7 o’clock from Regina and Saturday shifts back to Merlis Belsher.
